How to install Wordpress Mu on a shared hosting

I wanted to install wordpress mu on one of my local site. Giving people to express themselves might be a good idea. And I knew that there was wordpress mu for such sites. I had experience with wordpress but I had never installed wordpress mu before. Ant it wasn’t that easy.

When I first tried installing it, I uploaded files to my server, on a subdomain of an add on domain, I entered to site and I saw the install page but nothing happened when i clicked on “create a config page” link. I searched for a solution and found that this resourced from the wordpress installed on the main directory.

I renamed the wp-config.php to something else and tried again. It was ok, I could install wordpress mu. But whats that? When I tried to login, I got this error: “Warning! VHOST must be ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in wp-config.php” I checked the wp-config.php and saw that it VHOST was set to Yes, but it was giving the same error.

I talked this to good guys from hostgator. And we realized that It was resourced from the uppercase y in “Yes”. It must be written with lowercase letters.

It is ok now. I am trying wordpress mu on my shared hosting from hostgator.

Resize your images and add watermark

If you will use your images for web, sometimes you may have problem with them in uploading to your server. Especially, if your images are big in size. In such cases Fast Image resizer will help you a lot. In four easy steps, you will have resized al of your images and add watermark to them.

1) Download Fast Image resize. Unzip it and double click the executable file. Following window will open up. Click on ‘Options’.

2) Once Option is selected you will notice a small window. There are four options available to it – Output, Watermark, language and Extended.

3) Select ‘Output’ option to resize the image. You can move the slider left or right to decrease or increase the quality of an image.

4) Select ‘Watermark’ tab to add the watermark to the images. Watermark can be a simple text or you can add the logo by importing the logo image. Select fonts, font color and size of your choice and choose any of the six predefined location for placing the watermark on photo.

Note - The application is OS independent (JAVA) and is available in two languages – German and English.

How to install vista themes without patching the system first

Normally, vista is protected against installing third party themes not signed by microsoft, however we could instll these themes by patching the system. Now, with a free 200 kb application, we can install and enjoy these third party themes.

The new vista themes that have been moved to themes dolder will be automatically by the application. Then you select the theme and click apply button. Then your theme is applied to vista. Even after reboot, your theme will be in use.

How to download youtube videos in ubuntu

You can find a lot of alternatives for this subject as you can find any other applications in ubuntu. This the beautiful side of liinux and free os platforms. Of course there is an easy way and difficult way. First the easy one:

Step 1: Find the video you want to download and wait for it to completely finish loading.

Step 2: Minimize your browser (do NOT close it, some browsers delete the temp directory upon closing), and navigate to the directory /tmp

Step 3: Drag the flash file onto your desktop. Voila!

This definitely works with firefox, and probably most other browsers aswell. Enjoy!

And there is an another easy way to download videos from youtube in ubuntu and any other operating system; the online applications. For example Vixy.net is a site that allows visitors to download youtube videos in any format they want. (more…)

How to extract images from a pdf file

In fact we could do this with a simple trick. Open pdf file, hit print screen button and paste it into the paint or any other graphic program. But it is indirect way of extracting an image from a pdf file and the quality of image can decrease. There is an easier way to do this.

How to exclude categories on wordpress frontpage

You can say, why should i exclude a category on frontpage? There may be some reasons for you, for example; you can create a category for your del.icio.us or twitter account and automatically post your status to these categories and ,you may want to exclude them on frontpage.

But i would rather do it for seo? How? I create a category and post articles that humans doulnt love but search engines would love to that category. And exclude that category on frontpage. This is simple:

and

while (have_posts()) {

Drop in the following code:

if (is_home()) { query_posts('cat=-xxx'); }
xxx is the category number. To exclude more than one category, it is just a matter of listing each category ID in query_posts(), thus:

query_posts('cat=-12,-14,-22');

How to Repair Windows from Within Ubuntu

I am new at ubuntu but i really like it. One of the reasons for it is that you can see all windows system files, viruses, secret files etc… So, this gives you the opportunity to save your windows system when it has a trouble, of course, if you are using both operating systems on one computer.

If Windows is refusing to boot, for whatever reason, you can try repairing the file system from within Ubuntu. Use Synaptic to search for the ntfsprogs package. Once it’s installed, unmount your Windows partition (if it’s mounted), and type sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda1 to check and fix the partition (assuming your Windows partition is /dev/sda1—likely if you installed Ubuntu in a dual-boot configuration on a computer already running Windows).

This tip is also useful if you see the “Cannot mount volume” error when attempting to access your Windows partition from within Ubuntu.
